About the course

What does it mean to be a finance professional in a system that pits value against values? Can you be the same person at work that you have invested decades in becoming to your family and friends, or must you leave your values outside the office door? If you want to retain a coherent sense of what you stand for, how do you manage your interactions with those who could thwart you? The corporations that you will work for may hold the reins of tremendous power. What does it mean to wield that power responsibly? And why and how should you use your power as a financial intermediary to influence other corporations to do the same?

In this course we address these questions by painting a picture of the finance professional as a steward of the global economy. Within a program that equips you with the technical knowledge and analytical skills needed to understand and make financial decisions, this course will help you to articulate and deepen your appreciation of what you are doing all this for, to equip you with practical skills and strategies that will enable you to remain true to your values in the face of workplace challenges, to think critically about ethical issues in finance, to analyze the impacts both of your firm and of those it helps finance on organizational stakeholders such as employees, customers, neighboring communities, and the natural environment, and to address those issues in your role as manager or investor. Along the way we will achieve those learning outcomes demanded by the CFA Institute relating to ethics, professional standards, and corporate governance..
